Clemente Rodriguez and Family
Clemente Rodriguez and family. 26 years old. He learned how to knit within his family, his mother produced alpaca wool garments and taught him. They lacked workers so he decided to help out by knitting. He had a lot of talent from birth and now coordinates several independent knitters both within and outside the family. The family as workers looks to make a decent living and charges a bit more for their products as they are high quality. Mostly women, often single mothers that knit to augment their work. He always knits the design first and then supervises. They have always worked with alpaca which he has discovered they are warmer than other wools. If the wool is wet it still maintains the heat, it almost seems warmer. The alpacas have developed this ability and in hot weather it doesn asphix someone more than other wools. A friend's mother was working with fire and a large spark jumped onto her, but the alpaca didn't burn quickly and she was saved. They also work with cotton. "I believe this work has a lot to do with our ancient lifestyle, my mother comes from a place where from birth they grew aplacas and sheep and this was how they knit all their clothes, now we use different techniques and styles but the basics come from my parents and my grandparents and our culture".
