Warmis de Tiquipaya

Warmis is a group of Quechua campesino women based in Tiquipaya near Cochabamba and at the foot of Parque Nacional Tunari. They began in 2001 as a group of women seeking to earn more money for their families by gathering a couple times a week to weave and knit when they were not working in the fields or at other jobs. The name Warmis is Quechua for "women". The group is organized like a cooperative, each woman earns the profit from what she knits and signs her name to each piece she creates.  Warmis care sincerely about quality and hopes to be able to upgrade to a facility of their own. They chat in Quechua, some in Aymara or Guaraní (Indigenous Bolivian languages) but know spanish as well. Their goals are to provide more income to support the education of the children and support their families.
